We are a well funded technology growth company aiming to disrupt and make history in the tunnelling industry and the wider world of engineering.
We have an immediate requirement to hire a strong team player to support our need to build and maintain our growing fleet of innovative robots and devices.
The Role
As a Fabrication and Assembly Engineer at hyperTunnel you will come with a natural hands-on ability to take designs both formal and informal forward to physical prototype, and iterations thereof. You will work with the engineering team and fellow fabrication engineer to interpret designs and build both the robots, their mechanical systems, and any of the supporting mechanical equipment for both these and the broader company. You will also be proficient in the support, snagging and resolution of mechanical issues arising and therefore a practical and ‘keep it simple’ approach is favoured.
The successful candidate will be expected to have the following proficiencies:
    • Common materials knowledge for practical application
    • Common joining methods including welding, riveting, fasteners, etc
    • Ability to use common workshop tools and to specify tools where required
    • Ability to assemble novel mechanical systems with limited formal guidance
    • Ability to interpret and build to engineering drawings
    • Innovative thinker with ideas and constructive feedback to share
    • Ability to sketch to convey concepts is a benefit
    • Knowledge of and ability to compile simple Bills of Material (BoMs)
    • Ability to use the following to a basic level is a benefit:
      • Microsoft Word
      • Outlook (email & calendar)
      • Microsoft Excel

You are likely to have gained experience working within a similar industry and/or product development environment and be familiar with maintaining efficient progress and communications in a fast paced but targeted environment.

Qualifications
In order to fulfil the role, the following or similar would be an advantage:

  • Mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent
  • BTEC/ONC/OND or similar in related subject
  • Time served in a fabrication and assembly role with demonstrable results
