New appointment to maximise business value from IT

hyperTunnel has appointed Steven Banks as Director of IT to design and implement the strategic IT roadmap that will help it deliver its revolutionary tunnelling technology. Steven has had a long career leading transformative IT programmes in the civil engineering and finance sectors, most recently as Chief Technology Officer and then Deputy CIO and IT Information Security Director at top-five UK infrastructure services supplier, Amey.

Steven’s new role will combine day-to-day leadership of hyperTunnel’s IT function with supporting its digital twin initiatives and evolving the increasingly sophisticated digital architecture underpinning its methodology. Focusing on increasing business value from hyperTunnel’s IT systems, he will play a key role in monetising and protecting the data generated by its unique process.

“hyperTunnel is a highly innovative and exciting organisation,” said Steven. “It’s approach to tunnelling is genuinely transformational and the scope and scale of its potential impacts are vast. I’m really thrilled to be joining such a high-calibre team at a time when what started as a great idea is now coming to fruition. The IT strategy we put in place now will help to shape our future success.”

hyperTunnel CEO Richard Matthews commented, “The creation of this vital IT role is another important step in our journey, and, in Steven, we’ve found someone who can really help move us further along the path rapidly. Cutting-edge technology and innovation underpin everything we do, and Steven has a strong track record in both areas.”

At Amey, Steven drove an efficiency programme throughout the business using digital and IT to create customer differentiation, achieved a 50% improvement in information security maturity and deployed AI predictive analytics to radically evolve the business service model. Prior to Amey, he managed the roll out of leading-edge financial systems at NCR and Digital Equipment Corporation.
